Blackmon carved his niche, with CAMEO; as writer/producer/video director/drummer/lead singer, dancer, band leader & front man. Blackmon has produced many chart-topping artists, such as Chaka Kahn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bobby Brown, Eddie Murphy; just to name a few. Blackmon is an accomplished musician, composer, lyricist, and producer that has headed projects with Cyndi Lauper and Miki Howard; Blackmon’s collaborations include Miles Davis, Maceo Parker, Michael & Randy Brecker, and Bernard Wright, among others. Larry Blackmon has gone down in history as a music & style-sense icon and innovator.

The Grammy nominated Blackmon has taken home the American Music Award, two Soul Train Music Awards, music video award, platinum and gold albums, keys to several cities, and a multitude of accolades. His clever and unusual stage persona has been spoofed on “Saturday Night Live,” and on “In Living Color.” Matt Groenig, creator of “the Simpsons,” says that Blackmon was the inspiration for the look of character Bart Simpson.

Blackmon literally cut the ribbon to open up the city of “Atlanta” a music Mecca for the urban contemporary sound. In the early 1980’s, before Atlanta was even on the map as a music business city, Larry Blackmon launched his label “Atlanta Artist Records”, and moved his entire organization to the area and set up his headquarters of operation in Atlanta, GA. Blackmon built his brand and operations into a conglomerate, with a professional infrastructure, that included Atlanta Artist Productions and Atlanta Artist Management.

Blackmon has served as Vice President of A&R at Warner Brothers, hosted his own radio shows in Miami and Atlanta, at Hot 105 fm, and Kiss 104.1 fm, respectively, and, as the founder of 7Group Entertainment & 7 Records Inc. consistently works and tours year round as Cameo.

Blackmon keeps a hand in the executive production, A&R, and marketing aspects of running the company, as well as he keeps both hands in the creative end of productions.
